We are looking for a Merchandising Director to join our team. Is this role, you will lead the overall merchandising and product strategy and will be responsible for the commercial success of our products, continuously elevating Simms’ high standards for craftsmanship, innovation, quality and performance. You will develop and implement the global commercial strategy in line with overall brand strategy and individual category direction. You will work with the brand marketing and sales functions to develop and implement meaningful assortments and merchandising plans by consumer and channel. The Merchandising Director acts as the lead voice of the product categories in the market to both internal and external stakeholders.

This position reports to the Head of Product and is based out of our Bozeman office.

As the Merchandising Director, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Develop seasonal, annual, and long-term business plans in collaboration with the CPO & leadership team; cascade category and channel targets to the B2B and DTC teams.

  • Formulate and drive the overall commercial strategy for the categories including “where to play” choices, “how to win” strategy, commercial building blocks, key business drivers, and KPIs.

  • Conduct regular landscape assessments including competitor benchmarking, marketplace assessment, and brand positioning.

  • Guide the seasonal creation and delivery of the merchandising toolbox.

  • Partner with marketing to evolve and implement an angler observation and insight capability, and advocate for the Simms consumers’ needs and desires.

  • Manage pricing, volume, margin, inventory, and channel mix to achieve product margin and profitability targets.

  • Build and lead a high-performing merchandising team, inspiring commitment, and guiding the organization towards clearly defined objectives.

  • Partner with the marketing team to ensure strong marketing plans that support the overall business strategy.

  • Analyze data and insights to determine industry and consumer trends; collaborates with sales and marketing to identify new market opportunities, integrates insights into I2C process.

  • Own the omnichannel market demand planning forecast for the category.

  • Work with sales, FP&A, and supply planning teams to ensure product flow and inventory meets business objectives.

  • Support sales in key account meetings, sales launches, introduction to new technologies.

  • Collaborate effectively across internal teams, supporting coworkers in achieving their best results, and driving towards target outcomes across the broader team and overall business.

  • Provide expertise across categories with internal and external stakeholders, leading product training and education.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • 8+ years of experience in product merchandising or related field, preferably in outdoor industry.

  • 3+ years of management experience.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills required.

  • Strong attentional to detail and follow-though.

  • Ability to hold team members accountable for delivering on tasks.

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds, occasional physical set-up required.

  • 20-25% travel expectation (market and consumer focused, domestic and international).

Pay Range:

$107,500.00 - $168,100.00

The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
