Conservation Legacy programming engages participants in diverse conservation and community projects that serve public and private lands. These projects provide opportunities for personal and professional development and strive toward a high priority of needs for public managers and community partners. Through the mission of engaging future leaders who protect, restore, and enhance our nations lands through community-based service; Conservation Legacy works toward a world with health lands, air, and water, thriving people and resilient communities. Our programming consistently provides meaningful experiences for members while in the field. We desire to develop wrap-around services that provide members with essential workforce development skills that expand their opportunities beyond their time with us. As one of the leading conservation service organizations in the county, our Eastern programs are embedded in the beauty and landscapes of the Appalachian Mountains. Our participants have lived and played in our mountains and streams but have never really imagined a career in which they can get paid to play and promote the robust outdoor tourism economy in our region.
\nAs we consider opportunities to expand and deepen professional development of our members, we believe that providing certifications and course work from community colleges is an untapped space for growth. Many community and technical colleges across the region have outdoor recreation programs that are working to train new professionals to support the outdoor economy across Appalachia. Connecting with these programs and creating co-learning opportunities between our field experiences and their classroom programming is an excellent way to better prepare our members for employment in the region in our outdoor economy. Our ask is to support a new Workforce Development Initiative, the Appalachian Pathways Program, by providing three staff members, assigned out of our Appalachian based offices, where the staff members will build relationships, develop workforce development programming, and assist members in securing employment after their service.
