Position Details:

Stewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities.

\n

The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) at in the Golden Gate National Recreation area will serve with the Natural Resources & Science Division, with the opportunity to engage with other Divisions across the Park. The CVA will participate in the organization of all types of volunteer activities associated with the Natural Resources Division, including existing, long-standing volunteer events, and standing up new programs in historically underserved areas.

Site Description:

\n

Experience a park so rich it supports 19 distinct ecosystems with over 2,000 plant and animal species. Go for a hike, enjoy a vista, have a picnic or learn about the centuries of overlapping history from California’s indigenous cultures, Spanish colonialism, the Mexican Republic, US military expansion and the growth of San Francisco.

Position Responsibilities:

\n
    \n
  • The Natural Resources CVA at Golden Gate NRA will:
  • \n
  • Participate in existing volunteer activities, including in leadership and organizational roles,
  • \n
  • Perform outreach within the Park and externally with partners and neighboring communities to initiate new volunteer programs,
  • \n
  • Participate in ongoing work programs within the Natural Resource & Science Division across the 6 Vegetation Stewardship programs, and with the wildlife, wetland, and restoration programs,
  • \n
  • Analyze historic volunteer data and information, produce relevant reports and other related duties to enhance the volunteer component of the Natural Resource Division,
  • \n
  • Maintain clear records and provide responsive and timely input to supervisors in a dynamic and exciting urban Park
  • \n
\n

CVA Minimum Requirements:

\n
    \n
  • Must be outgoing and friendly and willing to work with a broad array of people
  • \n
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • \n
  • Must be open to new experiences and disciplines
  • \n
  • Must be a self-motivated individual, able to complete projects on time with only periodic supervision
  • \n
  • Must be able and willing to work outdoors for long periods in all kinds of weather and terrain
  • \n
  • Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in late March/early April 2024 (date TBD)
  • \n
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • \n
  • Be 18-30 years old at time of service (veterans up to 35 years old)
  • \n
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • \n
  • Pass fingerprint-based FBI, state criminal, and a national sex offender checks.
  • \n
  • Be able to provide proof of a driver’s license and complete a MVR check
  • \n
  • Must be over 21 years old or have had license for at least 3 years to be insured in this position.
  • \n

  • History of developing volunteer programs, or standing up public advocacy programs

  • Public Land Corps Hiring Authority
