Position Details:
\nStewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities.

The Climate CVA will take an active role in engaging with the public and provide informational awareness and activities that focus on climate change effects and ways we as individuals can mitigate the effects.
\n\n
The CVA will leverage event and reoccurring volunteers as an audience, but also as to get hands on experience in the park to advocate for and perform activities that will reduce climate change effects.
\n\n
The Climate CVA will create new partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and government agencies to enhance awareness and opportunities to engage with the public and reach new audiences as well as underserved communities.

Site Description:
\nWar in the Pacific's volunteer program consists of event volunteers who want to volunteer during annual events such as the International Coastal Cleanup, National Public Lands Day, and the National Day of Service. Community and military groups also make requests to do volunteer projects at War in the Pacific NHP on a regular basis. War in the Pacific NHP partners with other government agencies and community stakeholders to provide environmental and preservation awareness throughout the year and reach out to underserved communities that are affected everyday due to climate change. War in the Pacific NHP also has a volunteer program that works with volunteers to enable them to volunteer at our park on their own time and we also host monthly park maintenance and beautification events to keep our park clean, and to educate participants on threats to our ocean and land ecosystems and how to mitigate those threats.

Position Responsibilities:
\n- \n
- Engage with the public to create awareness of climate change and how it effects the lives of our coastal community. \n
- Create programs and exhibit style pop-ups (to include materials used) of environmental and anthropogenic threats to our unique island ecosystems. \n
- Utilize volunteers in parks during annual and monthly clean up events to help beautify the park and use the events as an opportunity for engagement regarding climate change and the impacts on the environment. \n
- Ie: sand sifting for microplastics and other small trash, removing invasive plant species, monitoring water quality and temperature, refuse, reuse, reduce and recycle, native tree planting, pack in pack out concepts. \n
- Recruit reoccurring volunteers to assist with awareness programs. \n
- Engage with and make connections with government, business and community organizations who are also involved with climate change awareness efforts and forge partnerships with them. \n
- Identify and make contacts with underserved, climate change affected community groups to engage with on climate change programs. \n
CVA Minimum Requirements:

- Efficient organization skills \n
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing. \n
- Outgoing and friendly \n
- Able to multitask. \n
- Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in late March/early April 2024 (date TBD) \n
- Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident \n
- Be 18-30 years old at time of service (veterans up to 35 years old) \n
- High School Diploma/GED \n
- Pass fingerprint-based FBI, state criminal, and a national sex offender checks. \n
- Be able to provide proof of a driver’s license and complete a MVR check \n
- Must be over 21 years old or have had license for at least 3 years to be insured in this position. \n
