Position Details:

Stewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities.

The Community Volunteer Ambassador will help to revitalize the volunteer program at Ocmulgee Mounds NHP. With a groundswell of local support for the park, there are many opportunities to engage the community. 

\n

 

\n

Site Description 

\n

Ocmulgee Mounds NHP tells the story of 12,000 years of continual habitation of the Macon Plateau by indigenous cultures. The Mississippian Period began around 900 CE and a vibrant culture developed here and people constructed large mounds which remain here today. The descendent native populations consider Ocmulgee their ancestral homelands.

Position Responsibilities: 

\n
    \n
  • Work with multiple divisions to gain insight into volunteer needs throughout the park.  
  • \n
  • Work to achieve park goals/objectives through the strategic use of volunteers.  
  • \n
  • Reach out into the local community for volunteer recruitment and support, especially Black, Indigenous, People or Color (BIPOC) and underserved communities.  
  • \n
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of volunteer events (days of service, etc.) and park-specific events. 
  • \n
  • Assist supervisor in managing and digitizing documents for the volunteer program. 
  • \n
  • Post volunteer opportunities on social media and volunteer.gov. 
  • \n
\n

CVA Minimum Requirements: 

\n
    \n
  • Be willing to occasionally work weekends and odd hours.  
  • \n
  • Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in late March/early April 2024 (date TBD) 
  • \n
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.  
  • \n
  • Be 18-30 years old at time of service (veterans up to 35 years old) 
  • \n
  • High School Diploma/GED  
  • \n
  • Pass fingerprint-based FBI, state criminal, and a national sex offender checks.   
  • \n
  • Be able to provide proof of a driver’s license and complete a MVR check 
  • \n
  • Must be over 21 years old or have had license for at least 3 years to be insured in this position 
  • \n
\n

Preferred Qualifications: 

\n
    \n
  • Ideal applicant will have an affable personality and be able to work with diverse audiences.  
  • \n
  • Local candidates within commuting distance of the park and with knowledge of local communities preferred.  
  • \n
  • Experience with Adobe products and managing social media.  
  • \n
  • Strong Public speaking skills and effective communication skills. 
  • \n

Park housing is not available. 

\n

  • $600/week living stipend.

  • $150/week in housing allowance.

  • The position is eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award $6,895.00 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of the program

  • $1,200 in professional development funds for training, networking, conferences, and/or travel.

  • Public Land Corps Hiring Authority 
  • \n
  • Week-long in-person training at NPS site with travel/meal expenses covered.
