Description
TheGIS Assistant role is a great opportunityfor someone who:
The GIS Assistant will be responsible for using ArcGIS Pro to implement cartographic standards developed by JCOS’s award-winning cartographic GIS Analyst into park maps, project maps, and web applications. These standards will also be incorporated into organizational map templates that all JCOS map creators will use and have been developed to make maps more accessible to a broader audience and to comply with digital accessibility laws.
The GIS Assistant will be responsible for updating the entire inventory of park maps (~30) as well as some maps that are project-specific.
The GIS Assistant will be responsible for ensuring all digital products comply with digital accessibility requirements.
This job is provided with a flexible schedule and is considered hybrid, with an expectation of periodic visits to JCOS headquarters to review printed materials with JCOS staff. In-office days are expected to occur once per month, but may change in frequency based on staff availability. Work conducted remotely will be performed on the employee’s personal computer, with access to necessary software provided.
The GIS Assistant position is expected to last 9 months and will be expected to work a minimum of 10 hours a week up to 30 hours a pay period (every two weeks). The creation of maps for review is extremely timely and continual progress is necessary. After a brief orientation period, maps will need to be updated frequently, at a rate of 1-2 per week.
Target Hiring Range: $24.00 - $25.00 USD Hourly
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.
Please note that this is a temporary, non-benefited position. Employees are able to earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours.

Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One year of work-related experience.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience and competence using ArcGIS Pro.
- Offer of employment contingent upon successful completion of criminal history, finger-printing motor vehicle report, education verification, and/or references.
