Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) TRIO SSS Peer Mentor position for the Cascade campus at Oregon State University (OSU) located in Bend, Oregon.

As a Peer Mentor, you will shadow existing peer mentors, attend TRIO events, and attend weekly staff meetings to successfully learn the skills needed to become a successful Peer Mentor.

TRIO SSS Peer Mentors will support TRIO’s effort to facilitate a successful college transitional experience for the incoming SSS Summer Bridge cohort. Peer Mentors will be working with new SSS participants during the Summer Bridge Program, as well as the remainder of the academic year. SSS Peer Mentors will help create a welcoming environment and familiarize SSS participants with college life. They will help the incoming SSS cohort adapt socially and academically, as well as monitor any adjustment issues. Peer Mentors will help the new SSS participants navigate college life at Oregon State University – Cascades by providing the student with information about available resources on campus, orienting them to the expectations of an institution of higher education, and encouraging participation in all SSS activities and events. It is required that the TRIO SSS Peer Mentors participate in all SSS planned peer mentoring activities.
Hiring will be based on need. We may not be actively looking for employees the entire time this posting is up, however, we encourage you to apply and you will be considered for the next available opening.
Position Duties
Peer Mentors will shadow existing Peer Mentors and attend staff meetings/training to learn the following tasks before becoming a Peer Mentor:
  • Coordinate volunteer programs and work directly with selected non-profit organizations. Participate as Peer Mentors in the SSS Summer Bridge Program.
  • Participate in planning and conducting student workshops and activities.
  • Assist in teaching the TRiO/SSS 1st Year Experience Course Fall term.
  • Meet with your assigned SSS students weekly during fall, winter & spring terms.
  • Assist in coordinating and participating in all SSS on- and off-campus events. Off-campus events require Mentors to drive.
  • Attend and participate in all SSS Peer Mentoring Meetings.
  • Assist in conducting program evaluations.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
