What you will be doing:
The Sr. Design Engineer’s primary responsibility is designing sophisticated electromechanical consumer products for the Beauty Division. The Sr. Design Engineer will participate on cross functional New Product Development Teams working closely with the Product Development Engineer, Industrial Designers, and product Marketing to understand the product needs and deliver designs that balance cost, performance, and reliability. The Sr. Design Engineer is the go-to expert for all mechanical design solutions. The Sr. Design Engineer will lead the pre-development concept phase of the project for the Product Development Engineer by creating breadboard models, refined proof of concept prototypes, and complete product assemblies. Guiding others through the design evolution to mass production, either on-site or at our overseas manufacturing locations, is a key responsibility. The Sr. Design Engineer will assist the Product Development Engineer with design evaluation, project communication, and pilot production builds. Additionally, this position will be responsible for testing and fixing designs as needed by the team, for example, working side-by-side with test technicians in the test lab.
Conduct sample and prototype evaluation and hands-on testing (Unique proof of concept testing, standard ASTM testing) to prove product feasibility.
Investigate and benchmark internal and competitive products and apply findings to new products.
Apply engineering practices based on tests and theory to provide innovative design solutions.
Work with APO (Asia Pacific Organization) team to guide the suppliers through the detailed design phase of assigned projects.
Participate in the patent clearance process and safety review process by understanding the patent landscape and providing clear and patentable designs.
Lead technical design review and brainstorming sessions.
Provide design support and direction to the sustaining and off the shelf teams on product improvements, conversions, revisions, and cost reductions.
Using CAD skills, critique, review, and provide feedback for design improvements
Participate in Value analysis/Cost analysis, and quality improvement efforts.

BSME or BSMET required or equivalent work experience commensurate to degree
7+ years of experience in 3D Pro-Engineer design and complex model building, consumer appliance industry in a new product development team environment, and plastic part design with surfacing using Pro-Engineer.
Requires experience working in multi-functional teams developing products with overseas suppliers.
Requires strong background in electromechanical product design including: plastic part design, mechanism designs, tolerance stack-ups, stampings, motors, fans, heaters etc.
Strong understanding of plastic injection molding process and plastic properties.
Consumer appliance experience with UL, ETL, CSA, and European compliance standards.
Experience in advising an overseas design/engineering team.
Demonstrated strong ability to convey technical concepts effectively through both written and verbal communication.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience in hands-on assembly and construction of prototypes and disassembly/evaluation of competitive products.
Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Solid understanding of FEA, CFD, DOE, and 6 sigma methodology
Solid understanding of DFMA principles
Experience with Agile PLM software
Industrial design education or experiences
