YETI seeks an experienced patent attorney to join our legal team. The Senior Counsel – Patents will be responsible for managing and directing the protection of valuable innovations in the U.S. and abroad and the maintenance of YETI’s global patent portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to advise senior leadership and product development teams on the patentability of inventions and to help drive innovation and strategic product development at YETI. The Senior Counsel – Patents will serve YETI as a subject matter expert in a wide range of patent-related matters and provide counsel on transactional matters, contract negotiation, M&A due diligence, pre-suit investigations and litigation.

Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution
• Develop and execute YETI’s patent strategy in collaboration with the VP, Associate General Counsel
• Effectively manage outside counsel to drive the efficient execution of YETI’s global patent strategy
• Work collaboratively with senior leadership and product development teams to identify new innovations and advise on IP protection
• Support the drafting and negotiation of technology agreements with the Commercial Contracts team
• Conduct patent landscape analyses and advise the product development teams
• Manage all aspects of YETI’s freedom-to-operate process
• Conduct pre-suit patent investigations and provide other litigation support
• Identifies and elevates issues, and supports the VP, Associate General Counsel and General Counsel as needed

Qualifications and Attributes:

• JD and at least 8 years of legal experience working for consumer-centric global brands
• Admission to and in good standing with the USPTO Bar
• Admission to and in good standing with at least one state bar
• Able to use sound judgment and practice sound patent strategy
• Must be proactive and able to independently review the work of product development teams from project inception to launch and identify patentable inventions
• Experience directly conducting patent landscape search and analysis to provide guidance to the product development teams
• Strong customer service mindset
• Possess executive presence with strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to communicate across various departments globally to drive results
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize disparate and complex inputs (both quantitative and qualitative) to make informed business decisions and recommendations
• Ability to thrive in a global cross-functional environment, exceptionally resourceful, detail-oriented, and highly organized
• Results driven, proactive, positive attitude, accountable and drives projects to completion
• Proven ability to multitask and work well under pressure in fast-paced environments

• Onsite: Role requires you to be onsite full-time.
• Hybrid: Role requires you to be located in Austin, Texas and is a mixture of onsite and remote.
• Remote: Role is full-time remote.
