Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge Environmental Justice Team
\nThe purpose of the Environmental Justice Leadership Team is to guide the implementation of Valle de Oro NWR‘s Environmental and Economic Justice Strategic Plan. As well as the overall- just development of the refuge. The mission of the Valle de Oro NWR EJ Leadership Team is to forward environmental, economic, and social justice through the community-based natural and cultural resource management.
\nProgram Overview:
The Air Monitoring Network Specialist will support the Valle De Oro (VDO) Environmental and Economic Justice Strategic Plan, by working on community-based environmental remediation, monitoring and mitigation activities to protect local health. The EJ Air Network Specialist will work closely with the EJ Air Steering Committee members consisting of the Pueblo of Isleta, Mountain View Coalition, Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps, Friends of Valle de Oro, Los Jardines Institute, Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program, and the Federal VDO Refuge.as well as other EJ Air Network Personnel, and partners and contractors.

EJ Air Network Specialist will help plan and prepare systems, and then conduct field work with state-of-the-art air quality monitoring equipment to record and analyze air quality data in the Mountain View Neighborhood, Valle de Oro NWR, and the larger South Valley area. The data collected by the Specialist will help identify and assess public health and safety risks from pollution and paint a picture of the environmental injustices faced by local communities. Ultimately, the data will be used to help build solutions to mitigate and prevent further harms.
\nAs part of this position, the Specialist will be engaged in technical training with air monitoring equipment, as well as local traditional ecological knowledge from indigenous and land-based community members for a holistic monitoring approach. This offers the Specialist career development opportunities to deepen their skills or gain new skills in the environmental monitoring field, which expected to grow and be increasingly popular as we continue to face environmental injustices and create real transformative solutions.

Required Skills
\n\nEssential functions and responsibilities:

- Equipment Management and Operations \n
- Review, validate, and track monitoring data, audits, and day to day activities associated with the operation and maintenance of continuous air monitoring stations. \n
- Review the activities of contractors and operators to ensure compliance with state and federal network objectives. \n
- Conduct field inspections to identify and resolve any potential issues and/or provide recommendations. \n
- Deploy, maintain, and manage equipment inventory. \n
- Track coverage and respond to inquiry as appropriate with guidance from supervisor.
- Data quality management\n \n
- Provide technical support associated with the operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of air monitoring equipment by reviewing and assessing air monitoring data, researching equipment issues and resolutions, and conducting field visits. \n
- Participate in the review and evaluation of project procedures and guidance materials. Advise and provide feedback to management regarding program activities and/or issues. \n
- Help coordinate the successful collection and transfer of data with OpenAQ software system. \n
- Develop monthly air quality data summaries and report. \n
- Conduct routine quality assurance checks on equipment.
- Community Newsletter Produce and participate in educational/professional trainings.\n \n
- Maintain job proficiency by attending training, offered internally and by outside vendors and agencies, relevant to air monitoring and contract management. \n
- Provide training and oversight to air monitoring personnel, contract operators, and local programs. Complete required competency evaluations for all air monitoring equipment. \n
- Assist with the training community technicians and EJ Air Network partners. \n
- Participate in meetings and discussions with the EJ Air Steering Committee, local and state agency partners, and community partners. Represent EJ Air Network in meetings and public functions to provide information and to promote coordination with fellow programs. \n

Required Experience

● Agree to practice the Environmental Justice (EJ) Principles and the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing to the best of your ability.
● Read and align the work of EJ Air with Valle de Oro NWR Environmental and Economic Justice Strategic Plan (EEJSP).
● Bachelor’s Degree, Relevant in-field experience. Or A combination of work (lived experience) and education with a strong background in project management, community relations, and environmental justice.
Some of the skills, education, training, and interests being sought include:

● Collaborative and Community-minded
