MobilizeGreen seeks a conservation minded Special Uses Intern to serve 48 weeks with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. As an RA, you will work as a part of the Special Uses team of 5-7 employees where you will be exposed to everything in that field. You also will work closely as a part of the district team. Your work will focus on lands special uses- permit administrator for lands which includes communication sites, roads, water lines, power lines, and utility companies. This is instrumental in administering permit actions that occur on forest service lands.

The work involves communicating with the public, doing site inspections, drafting correspondence and being a project manager. In your role you have the unique ability to facilitate appropriate use of private facilities across National Forest and work with USFS resource specialist to ensure the work is performed consistent with USFS resource management objectives. You will work in several different teams and will have the ability to learn about botany, hydrology, archeology, wildlife biology, and vegetation management. This is a priority of the Forest Service and focuses on connecting rural America with both improved internet access and in ensuring equal access to services.

The Resource Assistants Program is designed for recent graduates and new professionals to launch their natural and cultural resources careers. The RA will receive hands-on learning experience, mentorship, and coaching to complete mission-critical work while developing leadership, critical thinking, and strategic communication skills. This is a developmental program.

Location: In Mount Shasta, CA you will see the 14179-foot mountain covered in snow. We have everything from beautiful mountains, backpacking, mountain biking, mountain lakes, and a mall that is 1.5 hours away. Premier mountain climbing areas. Accessible and very easy to remote areas and then if you want to get to the Coast, you are about 4 hours away. Gorgeous area and welcoming group of co-workers.

Term: 52 weeks, starting February 5, 2024 to January 31, 2025; Full Time/40 hours per week

Duty Station: 204 West Alma, Mt. Shasta, CA 96067

Position Duties:

• Conduct field research on existing projects, document on-going activities and ensure compliance with contract.
• Use database to enter in new or existing projects.
• Help process fees and ensure accurate billing.
• Conduct simple environmental compliance actions working with other resource specialist in wildlife, botany, hydrology, fuels and timber.
• Working as a team member perform inspections on recreation special uses including houseboats, recreation trails, and other recreation uses.
• Gather, compile, and recommend environmental documentation for approval for new projects.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or greater in Natural Resource Management within 0-5 years out of school
• Experience in writing documentation and letters to different groups
• Experience in interacting with the public in a customer service role
• Basic knowledge of GIS
• Desire to be part of a team and willing to learn about different resource area and ask questions
• Valid driver's license.
