Job Summary | This recruitment will be used to fill future part-time, intermittent (approximately 25 hours per week as needed) Early Childhood Assistant positions at Oregon State University (OSU). This position will be located in Bend, Oregon. The Substitute Early Childhood Assistant supports the lead and assistant teachers at the Little Beavs Early Learning Center, a unit within the Family Resource Center on the Oregon State University Bend campus. The Substitute Assistant will be an on call position to fill in during staff absences and vacations. Campus ECE centers are committed to continually discovering, creating, and sustaining a teaching and learning environment that supports inquiry, diversity, and equity. Substitute Assistants are responsible (as outlined below) for the areas to which they are assigned and the young children in their care. Substitute Assistants support the full-time teacher(s), the Center Director, help with other Center wide duties. Substitute Assistants report to the lead and assistant teachers of their respective classrooms. This position requires knowledge of child development, excellent communication skills and tremendous patience to provide a safe, emotionally secure, and nurturing environment for the healthy development of young children. The primary duties will be to assist with day-to-day classroom operations. The Assistant will support other program staff to provide a high-quality early care and education program of direct service to young children and their families. This position is informed by the fields of Early Childhood Education, Child Development and Human Development and maintains a working knowledge about the trends and best practices in the field of early care and education. |

What We Require | A minimum of twenty semester hours (thirty quarter hours) of college courses in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Special Education; OR a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; OR one year of full-time experience in a certified day care center or comparable child care program. |

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. |

Working Conditions / Work Schedule | On-site active engagement in an early care and education context interacting with adults and children including work outdoors. Center hours will be 8:00 am-5:00 pm. There are no guarantees on the number of hours available each week. |
