Position Summary
  • The Office of Student Life enhances the mission of OSU-Cascades by providing services, resources, activities, and involvement opportunities to support the co-curricular experience of our students. We strive to connect students to the campus community, create opportunities to expand leadership skills, and inspire students to be life-long learners.
  • The Events Council is made up of a group of students who plan campus-wide events. We facilitate spaces for memory-making and supplement students’ educational lives here at OSU-Cascades. The Lead Office Assistant is responsible for assisting the Events Council supervisor with training and supervision of Office Assistants, in addition to keeping information on campus up-to-date and as greeting guests and sharing accurate information.
  • This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time Lead Programming Coordinator position for the academic year.
  • This position will work 15 hours per week at $18.00/hour starting with training Tuesday, September 3rd. Hours during the year include Week 0-10 during Fall term, Week 1-10 during Winter term and Week 1-Finals Spring term. This position is located in Bend, Oregon.

Position Duties
  • Support administrative processes and communication related to support of Student Life (Associated Students of Cascades Campus, Student Fee Committee, Events Council, Clubs and Organizations, Sports Clubs, Cascades Adventures, Fitness Center, and Intramural Sports) (60%)
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist in facilitating day-to-day tasks, which include general office duties like answering the Student Life phone and regularly checking voicemail, checking and responding to emails, and ordering office supplies.
  • Warmly greet visitors to the Office of Student Life while providing well-informed responses to all inquiries
  • Distribute student organization and community posters/flyers to campus bulletin boards
  • Shred, file, or scan documents as directed
  • Attend Events Council staff meetings and engage in ongoing training, professional development, and community building
  • Attend and support campus-wide events and activities planned by Events Council, including any Welcome activities
  • Administrative Responsibilities (25%)
  • Assist in training and oversight of Office Assistants; may be required to train staff without additional supervision
  • Assist in setting and accomplishing goals for Events Council
  • Support the development and maintenance of educational tools, trainings and tutorials
  • Assist in the attendance and/or ticketing process for events, including sales, deposits, and tracking payments
  • Complete other administrative tasks as needed
  • Other Position Responsibilities (15%)
  • May be asked to serve on a committee or work group within the Office of Student Life or Student Affairs
  • Work to learn, enhance, and promote diversity and social justice
  • Represent Events Council and the Office of Student Life to the OSU-Cascades and Central Oregon community

  • Duties Breakdown
  • Nine hours will be for Office Hours – includes assisting Events Council staff and/or providing additional training
  • Four hours will be for additional training/assisting Office Assistants
  • Thirty minutes will be for weekly individual check-ins
  • One hour will be for weekly Events Council meetings
  • Important Dates
  • Interviews will begin shortly after applications are received to fill positions before training.
  • Tuesday, September 3rd to Friday, September 20th: Events Council begins student training (6 hours a day)
  • Sunday, September 22nd to Tuesday, September 24th: Cascades Welcome Orientation Event Support (HOLD full day, working 8 hours per day)

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Experience working collaboratively as a part of a team
  • Ability to organize work, manage time, and follow through on tasks in a self-directed environment
  • Desire or interest in working with a variety of organizations and people from diverse cultures, communication styles, histories, and team structures
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal and written
  • Previous experience working as an Office Assistant in Student Life
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Previous experience working for any of the units in Student Life
  • Experience engaging traditionally underrepresented social identities (I.e. Race, Gender, Gender Identity, or Ability)
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of or experience with project management
  • Experience in leadership activities, student organizations, community service, and/or outreach activities
  • Previous experience working on a committee
  • Experience working with various tools within Bend Beavs Central (CampusGroups) and Microsoft Office365
  • Eligible to return as an OSU-Cascades student for the 2025-2026 (Junior standing or below)
  • In good academic standing for the term prior to selection and during entire period of employment
  • Maintain at least a cumulative GPA of 2.0 (undergraduates) or 3.0 (graduates) and be in good academic standing
