ABOUT YOU:

As the Senior Composites Engineer, you will coordinate the R&D efforts and manage lab resources towards increasing the durability, stiffness and safety of our carbon products for a given weight and cost.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAY JOB LOOK LIKE:

  • Work as a technical liaison with our composite factories to develop new layups and get buy-in on new materials and composite processes as needed from the Design Engineering Team

  • Manage the Composites R&D Lab

  • Participate in design reviews to help the Design Engineering Team determine directions based on project goals and DFM

  • Be a go-to expert for Design Engineers with composite layup and manufacturing questions

  • Review tooling, layup schedules, and communicate pushes, questions, and recommended changes

  • Own improvements to our products through layup and process optimization that fit within the development schedule

  • Evaluate testing failures to help guide the factory toward efficient solutions

  • Work with Quality team on issues or improvements with the factory as needed

  • Coordinate testing and production approval for all frames and components

  • Research alternate materials and manufacturing methods, and demonstrate advantages through hands-on prototyping, testing and analysis in the Composites R&D Lab

  • Travel to Asia up to four times per year

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Intimate knowledge of composites manufacturing, preferred experience with consumer products

  • Hands-on experience working with carbon fiber

  • Experience managing overseas manufacturing projects

  • Working knowledge of ProE / Creo software

  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment and use feedback in a constructive way

  • Consumer product design experience a plus

  • Intimate knowledge of Santa Cruz Bicycles product line

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend and explain documents in English. Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, in English.

HOURLY/SALARY RANGE: This compensation package will be dependent on experience, qualifications, industry experience and the interview with a potential range of up to $150,000 - $180,000.
